"Thanks to the enthusiasm and activeness of Frank Zappa's most famous musical collaborators from the Mothers of Invention, who are today's Grand Mothers, I was able to conceive a Tribute Night within the frame of the Strings of Fire festival, which in my opinion illustrated one of the most important periods in Frank Zappa's career, maybe even the period that shaped him the most........
In the second half of the Sixties The Mothers of Invention stood for some as rebellious, and for others as the Avantgarde of intellectually emancipated and politically orientated pop music. "Newsweek" described them as the "most radically and entertaining rock group of the USA" - but because of the dazzling dedication of these highly talented musicans they naturally became popular far beyond the American continent, revolutionizing popular music of the time throughout the world. The Mothers of Invention and Frank Zappa attacked the American Way of Life with their lengthy "Underground Orgies" as well as their entertaining mini-compositions. Open to all musical directions, they adapted sound structures from Igor Stravinsky, John Cage and Edgar Varese; they shocked with electronic generated screeching tones, noise collages and distorted taped sounds; they improvised Free Jazz and parodied the sentimental Rock 'n' Roll of the fifties........"
